If you are a mountain biker who believes the West has the best trails you will be pleasantly surprised by the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina. Here are some of the world’s greatest trails as also well described by Bike Magazine, “America’s Best kept Secret”. Brevard which is close to Pisgah national Forest offers technical riding for advanced riders in around 1000 miles of single-track riding. From granite slide rock to machine built trails this town goes all out to attract the top riders. A guide and mountain bike camp, Bike Farm also has a numerous variety of trails in progress and also a skills park on its biketopia.
Brevard has an 8000 resident population with a large amount of bike shops in its otherwise small-town demeanour. Mountain biking including paddle boating, climbers and festivals. Regular cycling events are hosted by Brevard annually including a five-day endurance race through the rooted and rugged mountains along Pisgah.
Some of the local favourites include the technical and challenging trail called Pisgah’s Pilot Rock with a steep climb up Laurel Mountain. One thing is for certain that Brevard with the gorgeous Pisgah Forest is far too extraordinary to look for accommodations anywhere except at the Bike Farm. Here bikers camp in tents throughout the year, have a bathhouse, hot showers and access to all the best trails the area has to offer. Those who do not want to camp will find plush sleeping at the historic Red House Inn with also a mountain biker as owner.
Great eating opportunities in the Bike Farm, the Crank Coffee or at Jamie’s Creole Brasserie. As this is a mountain biking town you probably will not find it strange that the best bar in town for after biking drink is inside a bike shop, called the Pisgah Tavern inside the Hub Bike shop.
